Younus Khan to open in all-important match against India

Karachi: If cricket pundits and media are to be believed, middle-order batsman Younis Khan will open inning for Pakistan along with Ahmed Shahzad in high-voltage match against India at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

According to reports, experienced Younus Khan, who has been struggling at No 3 position, has now been promoted to open the inning for Pakistan against India as regular opener Nasir Jamshed has been unable to impress team management.

Moreover, Umar Akmal will keep wickets in the match as regular wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed had been unable to impress with the bat. The team management must keep fingers crossed during the match that Umar doesn’t drop a catch or miss a stump of some key India batsman.

After playing impressive, match-saving and unbeaten 93-run knock against Bangladesh in warm-up, Sohaib Maqsood is also likely to be picked in the squad.

Tall Mohammad Irfan will spearhead Pakistan’s pace attack with fellow pacers Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan and Ehsan Adil.

Shahid Afridi will be Pakistan’s top spinner in the match with all-rounder Haris Sohail providing another spin option. Specialist spinner Yasir Shah also has a chance to be picked for the match, but it is expected team management would go with four pacers.

If hopefully captain Misbah-ul-Haq wins the toss, Pakistan most probably and they must opt to bat first. Both of the first two matches of the World Cup have been won by the teams, who batted first.

Although defending champion India will have an edge in the match having a strong batting line, Pakistan is also tipped to pull their first World Cup victory against India.

India has defeated Pakistan in all five previous World Cup encounters.

Pakistan’s probable team against India:

Ahmed Shahzad, Younus Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Haris Sohail, Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Irfan, Ehsan Adil, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz
