Zidane terms Wolfsburg clash a tough game
Spanish side Real Madrid are in Germany for the mid week UEFA champions league clash against Wolfsburg. The first leg will be played tonight at the Volkswagen Arena with the Whites stepping out onto the field being the clear favorites to win this tie especially considering that their El Clasico win against Barcelona was a huge morale booster for the side which is currently going through a mediocre season.
Speaking to media, a day before the match, legendary French player Zidane who is the coach of the Los Blancos is confident that his team can register a win in Germany but he considers the Wolfsburg side a threat which is why he won’t be taking them for granted.
“Tomorrow we face a difficult game. This is a team that have made it to the quarter-finals. They’ve struggled in their league, but that counts for nothing. This is a Champions League game and that means a lot to any player. They’ve deserved to get this far and tomorrow we’re going to be up against it. We’re going to go out there as we always do, play our game with our brand of football and we’re going to prepare well for it,” Zidane said.
“We’re only thinking about tomorrow’s match and about the Champions League game. We’re on good form because we’ve just won a game. We’re in good shape, but not just on account of Saturday’s game, before that one we were playing well too. Now we’ve got another game, it’s a difficult one and we’re going to prepare well for it. We’re in good shape to be playing a Champions League game,” the former French player added.
Zidane also appreciated the captain Sergio Ramos for his passion towards the game and, although, he was sent off in the match against Barcelona he backed him by saying that in such a game players do tend to give it their all and so he not concerned about it and considers the world class defender as a vital part of the side.
This match will be the first meeting between the two sides so they face an interesting proposition on Wednesday. Ten time UCL winners Real Madrid on 6 game winning run with the last one coming against arch rivals FC Barcelona while the Wolfsburg side has not been able to register a win in their last three games in Bundesliga so they would be looking to prove a point and stay alive in the UEFA Champions League but the threat from BBC and the whole Real Madrid side will be a tough one to handle.
