Zouks overpower Knight Riders in CPL opener
Port of Spain: In the opening match of this year’s Caribbean Premier League the St Lucia Zouks defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders by 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare.
The Zouks chased down the target of 163 in 19.1 over’s courtesy some sensible batting and a well time run chase from their batsmen. Opener Johnson Charles scored 52 runs off 38 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six. He and his Aussie teammate provided a solid platform with a 47 run first wicket stand. Sammy and Miller wrapped up the run chase with some clean hitting towards the end. Miller remained not out on a 33 off just 20 balls while Sammy remained unbeaten 11.
Narine and Dwayne Bravo picked up two wickets each for the Knight riders but they were not able to stem the run flow as their opponents cruised to victory.
Earlier the Knight Riders posted 162 runs after being put into bat by the Zouks. Thier star studded top three in the form of Brendon McCullum, Hashim Amla and Colin Munro were back in the hut with just 58 runs on the board but at this crucial point Darren Bravo carried the side with some clean stroke play and remained not out till the end. He scored 63 runs off 44 balls. Pakistani batsman Umar Akmal scored 30 runs.
For Zouks Shane Watson was their star bowler as he picked up three wickets for just 26 runs in his full quota of four over’s. South African pacer Morne Morkel picked up 1 wicket.
Zouks opner Johnson Charles was adjourned man of the match for his half century which proved crucial in the run chase.
