Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram has come out in support for Misbah and Younis and has said that its there decision to decide when to retire and nobody should force them about this matter. If they are fit enough and passionate about the game, then they should play as long as they want.
He gave a word of advice to the selectors to speak to Younis Khan about their plans about the future rather than just doing everything on their own as he considers that Younis is going through a stage where he needs to taken into confidence. He praised Younis with the words while talking in a video interview with sports360.com
‘Younus is a very different individual, very nice guy, thorough professional and a thorough gentleman”
He appreciated Misbah about how he led the side when the team was going through a turmoil 3-4 years ago and also defended his Tuk Tuk nature by stating that the way the batting department is/was performing they needed someone like a Misbah to stable the innings during the middle overs. He said
“I am glad Misbah was there to hold the fort”
He also backed Younis khan to play in ODIs for Pakistan as he worried to see the team struggle against average Zimbabwe bowlers consistently during the tour and which is why he wants Younis in the lineup to steady the ship but he also said that young players should be given the chance if they are good enough.
I reckon he (Younis Khan) is good enough to play for Pakistan in ODIs. The way we performed against Zimbabwe, their bowlers were average bowlers, not great bowlers I would say. They worked very hard but Pakistan were mostly 30-3 and 40-4 on stages and there you need people like Younus and I am all for young generation but as long as they are good enough”
