ISLAMABAD: The winner of 1992 World Cup and chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan has been elected as the 22nd Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Imran Khan secured 176 votes, making him the 22nd Prime minister of Pakistan, his opponent Mian Shehbaz Sharif got 96 votes.
Speaker Asad Qaiser announced the results declaring Imran Khan as the Leader of the House.
To attend Imran’s oath-taking ceremony, former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu crossed the border today. However, the ceremony will be held tomorrow at 9 am.
Khan’s 1992 team members were also present in the viewers’ gallery during the voting session and are also invited to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
Imran Khan served as the Pakistan team’s captain intermittently throughout 1982–1992. He led Pakistan to victory at the 1992 World Cup victory.
