With the Cricket World Cup 2015 looming nearer, all eyes are moving towards Australia and New Zealand where this event will take place from 14th of February. Different teams are gearing up to fight and win the Mega Event but for Pakistan situation is entirely opposite.
Untimely injuries, suspension of key players and some dubious decisions made by PCB has left the team in a disarray just before the start of World Cup. Misbah Ul Haq, who once led the team in an impressive manner after the spot fixing scandal, is now feeling the heat again going into the Mega Event. Now just 1 week before the Cricket World Cup 2015, here are 3 key questions whichthe Green Shirts have to answer in order to grab something worthwhile in thiscampaign.
Even though Mohammad Hafeez did well in the 2nd ODI against the Kiwis, but that doesn’t hide his blushes against some of the quality bowling line-ups. His back to back failures against the likes of Steyn and co will come back to haunt him sooner or later in this Mega Event. But sadly, Pakistan Team has no emergency plan to deal with this problem. With just 2 openers in the bag, Misbah Ul Haq will have to make a tough decision in case Hafeez fails to deliver once again in the opening slot. It seems that Sarfraz can bat at the top, but looking at his inexperience regarding the pitches of Australia and New Zealand, here lies a big question for the Green Shirts.
No of Bowlers?
Here lies a serious problem for the Green Shirts. Since after Mohammad Hafeez got banned due to illegal bowling action, Misbah and co just couldn’t find the right combination in their starting XI. Pakistan always possess a formidable bowling attack, but after the untimely suspensions, now Green Shirts have lost their cutting edge in the bowling Department.
In both the ODIs against Kiwis, Waqar Younis opted to go with only 4 genuine bowlers as a result of which Green Team struggled to complete their full fifty overs. Even Younis Khan had to bowl a couple of times to complete the mandatory overs.
So now Pakistan has to rethink about their bowlers-batters combination. And if they want to do well in the Mega Event, they will have to play with 5 bowlers in their starting 11.
Haris Sohail vs Sohaib Maqsood:
Two very talented youngsters, but both with different mindsets, Pakistan Middle Order is in two thoughts over the inclusion of the right man for the job. When Misbah Ul Haq and Younis Khan’s position is all but certified in the starting XI, it all depends on Waqar Younis now as whether he wants to go with calm but out of form Haris or pinch hitter Sohaib Maqsood in his starting XI.
Haris Sohail had a very successful series against the Kiwis in Dubai. But the change in tour venue brought a change in his luck as well. On the other hand, Sohaib Maqsood was doing well with the Green Shirts before he got out due to severe injury concerns. Making long statement short, Cricket Pakistan has a serious question on their hand before Cricket World Cup 2015 kicks off on February the 14th.
