New Zealand’s opening batsman Martin Guptill played a solid knock in the first innings of the first test match against Sri Lanka at Dunedin.
The kiwi opener looked in sublime form right from the outset and played some quality shots all around the park and especially his drives towards the off-side were a treat to watch. His century cam off 147 balls and included 17 fours and at a more than decent strike rate considering that this was a test match. Before this innings Guptill was going through a rather sedate period in test matches this year and this was his first century of 2015 and also the first one after November 2011 against Zimbabwe.
He was dismissed for a well made 156 runs off 234 balls when a quality ball from opposing team skipper Angelo Mathews got him caught behind.
The Blackcaps finished the day at a massive 409/8 with quick fire fifties coming from Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson.
