Abbas’s fifer keeps Overseas Warriors in KPL’s playoffs race

MUZAFFARABAD: Abbas Afridi picked up five wickets to set the tone for Overseas Warriors to beat Rawalakot Hawks by five wickets (DLS) in the rain-hit 13th match of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL). 

The right-arm pacer was on song with his spell of four overs in which conceded 18 runs and took five wickets which helped Warriors restrict Hawks to 145-9 in 20 overs.

Hawks’ opener Umar Amin scored the highest 54 runs off 42 balls with the help of six boundaries. Hussain Talat made 23 runs off 15 balls spread over two boundaries and a six.

Sohail Khan was the other wicket-taker from the Warriors as he took three wickets for 28 runs in four overs.

Openers of Warriors, Nasir Nawaz and Naveed Malik scored 105 runs together as their team scored 133-3 before the rain came in. warriors were declared winners on better run-rate.

Nasir smashed 56 runs laced with 10 boundaries whereas Naveed made 45 runs off 33 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes.

Asif Afridi bagged two wickets for the Hawks.

In the first match on Day 7, Muzaffarabad Tigers chased 214 runs for the loss of six wickets against Bagh Stallions. Sohaib Maqsood made 59 runs off 40 balls laced with three boundaries and a six.

Anwar Ali made 43 runs off 19 balls enlightened by two fours and four sixes whereas Mohammad Wasim Jr finished the chase well for the Tigers with 31 runs off 9 balls including a boundary and four sixes.

For Stallions, Umaid Asif and Aamir Sohail bagged two wickets each.

Earlier, Shan Masood (65) and Iftikhar Ahmed (86) led Stallions to post a towering total of 213-4 in respective 20 overs. Masood smashed 14 boundaries and four maximums whilst Iftikhar struck four boundaries and eight sixes.

Aamir Yamin produced yet another stellar performance with the bat and smashed 41 off 21 laced with six boundaries and a six.

Skipper Hafeez managed to get two wickets for Tigers.
