Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost to Central Punjab despite Rizwan’s heroics

Rawalpindi: Mohammad Rizwan fought hard by scoring 99 off 68 balls but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) fell four runs short to hand the fourth victory to Central Punjab (CP) in National T20 Cup.

While chasing 175, KP suffered immense pressure due to losing wickets at regular intervals until skipper Rizwan arrived at the crease. The right-handed batsman struck seven boundaries and six maximums to once again prove his worth in the shorter format.

In the last over of Ehsan Adil, KP needed 21 runs and it was Rizwan who smashed him for two boundaries and a six but couldn’t finish it for his team.

Iftikhar Ahmed scored 21 off 31 balls with the help of two boundaries and a six while Musadiq Ahmed made 17 to help KP reach 171-6.

For CP, Waqas Maqsodd bagged 3 for 43 while Ehsan took two. Faheem Ashraf bagged a scalp.

Earlier, Abdullah Shafiq (63) and Mohammad Akhlaq (50*) helped CP post 174-4 in 20 overs.

CP lost Kamran Akmal for just 3 runs after they were invited to bat first in the 26th match of the event. But, Babar Azam (39 off 33 balls) partnered with Abdullah to score 80 runs together. Babar’s inning included three boundaries and a six.

Later on, Akhlaq and Abdullah partnered for the third wicket to add 70 runs to the team’s total. Akhlaq struck four boundaries and three sixes while Abdullah smashed five boundaries and two sixes.
