Pakistan’s opening batsman Abid Ali, who announced his arrival at the international cricket with a century against Australia in the UAE, is likely to be selected in the World Cup squad as the third opener.
Whereas, the other two openers are expected to be Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2017 final hero, Fakhar Zaman and the other left-handed opener, Imam Ul Haq.
Just hours before the official announcement of the World Cup squad from Inzamam Ul Haq, there are reports that Ali might make into the squad alongside Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez and Asif Ali, who will strengthen the middle-order.
Sarfraz Ahmed will lead the side in the multi-nation cricketing event, which is to be played in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14.
Pakistan will also take on England in a one-off T20I and a five-match ODI series in their backyard ahead of the mega event, which is considered to be an important assignment for the preparation of World Cup.
Inzamam Ul Haq will address a press conference shortly, where he will announce the squad.
