Afghanistan appoints HD Ackerman as batting coach

Cape Town: Former South African cricketer turned commentator Hylton Deon Ackerman has been named Afghanistan’s batting coach and he will start his tenure against Ireland in the three-match T20I series.

The former batsman will join the bunch of South African coaches associated with the Afghanistan cricket team. Former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener is the head coach, Robin Peterson is the bowling coach and Rivash Gobind is the fielding coach.

Ackerman played 4 Test matches and scored 161 runs in eight innings for the Proteas in 1998 but his first-class record was fantastic as he scored 40 centuries at an average of 43.65.

Afghanistan last played against the West Indies where they defeated them in the T20I series. They won the T20I series 2-1 but were clean swept in the ODI and Test format.
