Pakistan and Karachi Kings opener, Khurram Manzoor said that only the presence of Shahid Afridi in the team puts the opponent side under immense pressure.

“Shahid Bhai presence puts the opponent side under pressure,” said Khurram Manzoor while talking to ARY Sports. “He played for Peshawar Zalmi in the previous season and in a game, he almost steered his side over the line single-handedly, we only managed to win it once he got out,” he recalled.

Karachi Kings finished at the third position in the second season of the league, Manzoor is hopeful that they will improve their performance and will at least play the final.

“We missed the final by a whisker, we will look to clear the stage where we failed. Especially, if the final takes place in Karachi, it would be a huge boost for us as it will be our home ground and local crowd,” he added.

The right-handed batsman mentioned the team launch event that took place in the National Stadium Karachi that he was astonished to see the jam-packed crowd despite the city’s situation.

The 31-year old believes that addition of Multan Sultans will certainly help the quality of cricket in Pakistan Super League (PSL) to go up.

“With the increase in the number of teams, it increases the number of players, which is always encouraging,” he said. “With the addition of new players, it beefs up the competition,” he added.

Manzoor quoted Indian Premier League (IPL) as an example that it has eight to ten teams, which is why it is a highly competitive league, similarly, the addition of more teams in the PSL will only improve its quality.

Moreover, the batsman who hails from Karachi told that sharing the dressing room with international players helps the young players to learn tricks and trades of the game and it has helped Pakistan to do well in the international cricket.

“Players like Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard or Shoaib Malik teach you a lot,” he said.

Khurram Manzoor is hopeful that the future seasons of the league will give Pakistan more superstars like Shadab Khan, Rumman Raees and others.

“Every addition of PSL has given a couple of new players so far. It was Sharjeel (Khan), (Mohammad) Nawaz, Asghar (Khan) in the first edition. Then there was Shadab (Khan), Fakhar Zaman in the season,” he said.

“With the addition of the sixth team, the number of new finds will increase as the league will get more competitive now,” he concluded.
