Pakistan’s former captain Shahid Afridi revealed the reason behind parting ways with his Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) franchise, Peshawar Zalmi, which is owned by his close friend Javed Afridi.

Talking to a local news channel, the veteran allrounder said that Javed Afridi’s vision is changing with time and he does not want to be an obstruction in his way. Moreover, he stated that he wants to give all his time to Shahid Afridi Foundation.

“There are a few personal things that I don’t want to highlight in the media,” said during the interview. “I saw Javed’s vision changing with time. I didn’t want to be a hindrance in his new goals and vision. I have a lot of commitments to my own foundation, so I wouldn’t be able to give my services completely to him also. There are a lot of projects of my foundation that I need to set my focus on.”

However, Afridi said that whether he plays for Zalmi or not, the relationship between the two men will not be affected, “These things don’t affect our families’ friendship and relation.”

Shahid Afridi further told that he wanted to take the decision straight after the conclusion of PSL 2, but he had some commitments with the franchise that he had to fulfill, “I wanted to take this decision after the PSL final but I had to fulfill a few commitments with Peshawar Zalmi so I delayed it a little. However, I did want to win the PSL with Peshawar Zalmi and we did that.”

Shahid Afridi captained the side during the first edition of the league, but he handed over the captaincy band to West Indies two-times World T20 winning captain, Darren Sammy.
