Lahore: Pakistan Head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has clarified that not just Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad will get a chance but every performer in the domestic cricket will be inducted in the squad whenever needed.
“It’s not about only Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal or any other specific player, every player who performs will get a chance. We are trying to check every player from our pool. We can’t induct everyone collectively in the side,” he said.
“See, Ahsan Ali, Shoaib Malik, and Mohammad Hafeez are included in the side on a performance basis,” he added.
In the presser, while announcing the T20I side for the series against Bangladesh along with skipper Babar Azam, he said that there is a lot of time left in the ICC T20 World Cup and the changes will be done till they find out the best possible combination for the team.
“We have a lot of time left until the World Cup. The past experiences of trying different combinations were done on the basis of making the best possible combination. Pakistan Super League (PSL) will give us all the answers about players’ performance,” he added.
Misbah thinks there is no fear of losing while selecting the side and the team they have selected is a mixture of new and experienced players.
“There is no fear of losing and the squad is based on trying new combinations, if there was any such thing like this, we didn’t have to try out new players in the past,” he added.
It must be noted that the 15-member squad has been announced for the series against Bangladesh. Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ali, Haris Sohail were the notable omission from the squad whereas three uncapped players Ahsan Ali, Haris Rauf and Amad Butt are found their places in the team for the first time.
