AUCKLAND: The pair of Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Poland’s Marcin Matkowski defeated Jonathan Erlich and Scott Lipsky in the final of ASB Classic tournament on Saturday played in Auckland.
The team of Aisam and Matkowski struggled in the first set where they broke three times. The pair lost the first set of the game by 6-1.
“We came out a bit flat but they were returning unbelievably, and we hung in there second set, changed the flow of the match a little bit,” Matkowski said after the winning the title.
Aisam’s partner also said that it was probably the best tiebreak he has ever played.
“The tiebreak was one of the best I’ve ever played, everything went our way,” he told.
The duo looked extremely impressive in the second set and went on to secure 92 percent of the first-serve points.
The Pak-Polish pair continued their form and broke to go 3-2 up before winning the next three games and forcing the match into tiebreak.
After winning the title, Aisam and Matkowski are hoping to play together again in the ATP doubles campaign.
“Every time I ask Marcin, he always has other partners,” Qureshi said.
“I’m very happy this time around he chose me, it’s been a great week,” he added.
