KARACHI: Pakistan’s ace tennis star, Aisam Ul Haq Quraishi has qualfiied for the quarter final of the mixed doubles in Wimbledon on Wednesday after convincingly beating his opponents in straight sets.
Aisam is having Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan as partner in the campaign, the duo defeated British pair of Neal Skupski and Anna Smith by 6-3 and 6-4.
The contest between the two pairs lasted for 1 hour and 4 minutes, the Pak-Kazakhstan duo aced the opponents five times with their serve, however, they were beaten three times by the British duo’s serve during the game.
Aisam and his partner Shvedova bagged 61 points in total with just 1 unforced error, which is just two more than their opponent pair.
Aisam and Shvedova will face off the Polish pair of Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and Marcin Matkowski in the first quarter final of the mixed doubles category on Court no 3.
The Wimbledon 2016 is Aisam’s 11th appearance on the grass court since he turned pro in 1998. His best performance came in 2010 when he qualified for quarter final of doubles.
