Pakistan’s veteran off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal has been appointed as the Director Development Cricket in Sports Board Punjab (SBP) to pick out potential players at the grass root level.
Saeed Ajmal, who has been rewarded with Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his precious services for cricket in the country, is assigned the task of supervising cricket academies in Punjab, revival of grounds and develop the game in the province.
Ajmal, who is also known as the magician in cricket fraternity, will be responsible to encourage cricket activities at the school, college and university level. He will look for talented kids at the primary and middle school level specifically.
The Director General of Punjab Sports Board told APP, “We have given responsibility to Saeed keeping an eye on future of Pakistan cricket and we are confident to get benefit from his expertise in the game.“
“Now we are focusing on our major sports in which we had a glittering past and hiring of Saeed is part of our cricket development programme to spot cricket talent at early level and to groom it under a long term plan,” he added.
He further stated, “We are rich in cricket talent and we will evolve a system to have a reservoir of young talented cricketers to broaden the base of the game and to serve a pipe line to produce finish products for our junior cricket teams .”
Saeed Ajmal was banned by the ICC for having an illegal bowling action, however, the 38-year old remodeled his action and cleared the test, but, he couldn’t find a place in the national side of Pakistan afterwards.
He has bagged 447 wickets while playing for Pakistan across the three formats.
