5 – Record worst start in ODI history

Pakistan recorded the worst start in One Day International (ODI) history after four of its batsmen were sent back to the pavilion with only a single run on the board against West Indies in the ongoing World Cup.

4 – Chris Gayle records first World Cup double century

West Indies’ Chris Gayle became the first batsman in World Cup history to score a double century. He achieved the milestone with the help of 16 sixes and 10 boundaries in a game against Zimbabwe.

3 – Glenn McGrath takes seven against Namibia

Glenn McGrath set the record of best bowling figures in World Cup as he took seven wickets while conceding just 15 runs in his seven overs against Namibia in 2003 Cricket World Cup . Only four bowlers have managed to take seven wickets in a World Cup match so far.

2 – Kevin O’Brien fastest World Cup century

Incidentally hailing from an associate team, Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien scored the fastest century in World Cup history against England in the 2011 edition of the mega event as he smashed the opposition to all the corners of the stadium. He accomplished the feat after hitting 13 boundaries and six sixes.

1 – First ever tied World Cup semi-final

Following heroics from Lance Klusener, South Africa needed just a run of four deliveries to qualify for final of 1999 Cricket World Cup. Allan Donald was run-out while attempting to take the winning run, resulting in Australia going through to the final.

(Australia qualified for the final as they had beaten Proteas in the Super-Six stage of the World Cup).
