DUBAI: Pakistan’s pace spearhead Mohammad Amir showed confidence that his hard work will pay off and get him back to taking wickets when he has the ball in his hand against arch rivals India in the crucial Asia Cup match in Dubai on Wednesday.
Known for his big match spoils, Amir has not been amongst wickets, having taken only three in eight matches since taking three Indian wickets which played a key role in Pakistan’s thumping 180-run win in the Champions Trophy final last year.
He also went wicket less in the opening Asia Cup game against Hong Kong on Sunday.
“Look, as the main bowler you feel [down due to] the lack of wickets,” Amir told ARY news. “It’s also frustrating for the fast bowler, you get confidence by getting wickets and do better and better.”
Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed admitted Amir not taking wickets is a concern but backed his bowler by saying ‘at times you bowl well but don’t take wickets.’
“Wickets are necessary but at times you are bowling well and wickets don’t come. I always believe that luck also matters in cricket but at the end of the day you need to work hard and hard and the reward comes.
“I have maintained that hard work so I will try my best to get wickets for my team.”
Amir said India will miss their skipper and world class batsman Virat Kohli, who is rested for the Asia Cup to cure his aching back after a long tour of UK.
“For me every wicket is important whether its of Kohli or of anyone, but Indian batting line up depends on him and it will be a disadvantage for the Indian team,” said Amir.
Amir admitted a good show in an India-Pakistan encounter. makes him a hero overnight.
“No doubt, there is so much hype over a Pakistan and India match. Its so much hyped in the media and in public but at the end of the day you have to play a match and give your hundred percent. When its an Indo-Pak match every player in his mind that if he performs here he becomes a hero from zero,” he told.
“Every player focuses on doing well against strong teams like India and Australia. That makes or break your career and you can express your skill and gets the confidence. For me its my all-out effort to perform then it helps lift your career.”
