NEW YORK: British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan Saturday defeated US boxer Chris Algieri and won the silver welterweight title, ARY News reported.
Amir Khan won the fight held at the Barclays Center, New York on Saturday. Both the boxers entered into the ring n an aggressive mood, yet Algieri was seen helpless before Khan’s powerful punches.
Amir Khan maintained pressure on his rival since the beginning of fight and gave him no chance for a comeback throughout the match.
Upon the end of fight match referees decided in favor of the British-Pakistani boxer.
The jury declared Khan as winner with 117-111, 117-111 and 115-113 points.
Amir Khan after beating Chris Algieri called out the undefeated WBA and WBC champion Floyd Mayweather. Khan says that wanted to regain the title by defeating Mayweather.
