Army beat WAPDA to win National women’s softball championship


Pakistan Army defeated WAPDA by an inning and five runs in the final match to win the 14th National women’s softball championship in Quetta on Tuesday.

Army scored nine runs in nine innings while in reply WAPDA managed just four runs in seven innings to hand a comfortable victory to their opponent.

Aliya Saif and Fariha Nayab scored two runs each while Atiya Ishaq, Erum Khalid, Humera Khan, Rashida Parveen, and Zahida Gouri shared one run apiece.

From Wapda, Rabia, Iqra, Sana and Umme Hani contributed one run each to their team’s total.

Punjab team managed the third position while Rahila Jawed named as the best player of the event which featured seven teams including Pakistan Army, WAPDA, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan, and Islamabad.

Former senator, Nawabzada Lashkari Raeesani was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and distributed awards among the players.

He, while talking to the media said that these sort of sports should take place at regular intervals to provide youngsters a platform to showcase their talent.

“Such events pave the way for players to showcase their talent,” he said.
