Mickey Arthur reveals why he had a fight with ‘arrogant’ Umar Akmal

Karachi: Former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has revealed that he had a heated verbal fight with banned middle-order batsman Umar Akmal because of his continuous failures in fitness tests in 2017 and his troubling behavior.

The 29-year-old Umar accused Arthur that he used strong words in the presence of then-chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.

“I thought he was arrogant during the incident at the High-Performance Center. He walked up to our fitness trainer, Grant Luden, asked him for his fitness program despite handing him numerous in the past. He then went up to Grant Flower and asks him ‘Can I have a hit?’ which at that time was unbelievably arrogant,” Arthur said while talking on BSports’ YouTube channel.

“Than I told him, let’s go have a chat. I told him that you need to sort things out first which includes improving fitness and scoring runs. I might have a couple of strong words but that was to realize him into some sort of action,” he added.

Arthur also said that Umar is the only one responsible to blame himself and also thinks that if he picked again for Pakistan it would be a very surprising and poor decision.
