China keep England at bay, while Australia beat Ireland

On the third day of Hockey World Cup, Australia defeated Ireland by 2-1, whereas China managed to draw their game against England by 2-2 in a cracker of a contest on Friday.

In the first game of the day, reigning champions Australia got the better of Ireland. Blake Govers scored the first goal for Australia in the 11th minute of the game on a penalty corner.

Just after a couple of minutes, Shane O’Donoghue scored the equaliser for Ireland with a beautiful goal. Ireland could not defend their goal for long as Tim Brand scored the second goal for his team in the 32nd minute, which sealed the win for the Kangaroos.

In the second game of the day, China and England put up a thrilling contest, which entertained all the hockey fans.

Xiaoping Guo opened the account for China, however, they could only manage to maintain the lead for eleven minutes as Mark Gleghorne scored a levelling goal for his team off a penalty corner.

England gained the lead in the match courtesy of Liam Ansell’s goal in the 48th minute of the match, it looked like the goal will confirm the win for them. However, China made a comeback in the 59th minute with Talake Du scoring the match-saving goal for China on a penalty corner.
