Australia trounce Pakistan in quarter


ADELAIDE: Australia defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the quarter final here at Adelaide on Friday, reports.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first in the match.

The green shirts were all out for 213 runs with Haris Sohail being the top scorer with 41 runs from 57 balls. Captain Misbah-ul-Haq made 34 runs from 59 balls.

Sohaib Maqsood and Shahid Afridi scored 23 and 20 runs respectively.

Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood grabbed four wickets whereas Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell took two wickets each.

Mitchell Johnson and James Faulkner also grabbed one wicket as well.

Australians chased the target of 214 runs with more than 16 overs to spare due to some brilliant batting by Steve Smith and Shane Watson.

The whole feeling of the match changed when Watson was dropped by Rahat Ali of the bowling of Wahab Riaz.

Smith and Watson then steam-rolled the green shirts bowlers and went on to make 65 and 64 runs respectively.

Maxwell made 44 runs from 29 balls.

Riaz took two wickets whereas Sohail Khan and Ehsan Adil took one wicket each.

Hazlewood was named Man of the Match for his bowling performance in the match.

Australia will now take on India in the semi final.
