Australian High Commissioner watches women’s team warm-up match

Australian High Commissioner Dr. Geffory Shaw visited National Stadium Karachi (NSK) and watched Pakistan women’s team camp ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

He was accompanied by the chairperson of women’s selection committee Urooj Mumtaz who briefed the guest about Pakistan women’s team and their preparation for the mega event.

While talking to the media during his visit, Shaw appreciated PCB’s efforts to highlight women’s cricket in the country. “It is extremely exciting to see women’s cricket progressing in Pakistan. I saw them playing and to be honest the standard has raised here. The facilities here and everything is fine,” he said.

To a query about negotiating with Cricket Australia (CA) to bring an Australian women’s team or A team to Pakistan in the near future, he said PCB CEO Wasim Khan and chairman Ehsan Mani are in talks with CA. “I think the PCB has put a strong case in front of CA. They had talks with CA officials and I hope soon an Australian team will travel to Pakistan,” he maintained.

On the other hand, the Australian High Commissioner assured high-quality hospitality for the Pakistan women team when they travel to Australia later this month. “Women’s team will get the best possible facilities there. We are promoting women’s cricket and looking forward to recording the highest crowd ever in the final of ICC Women’s tournament at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG),” he concluded.
