London: Australian batsman George Bailey will be Hampshire’s overseas player in the English championship for the next two years, the county side announced Tuesday.

The 34-year-old big hitting right-hander and former Australia Twenty20 captain will start a second spell at the Rose Bowl after a season in 2013.

Bailey, who has also played for Middlesex and Sussex, said he was “thrilled” to be returning to Hampshire, who were relegated to the second division this year.

“I’m really excited about the progress the squad has made over the last few years.

“I’m looking forward to doing my bit to contribute to a successful period ahead with Hampshire Cricket.”

Bailey has won five Test caps for Australia and played in 87 one day internationals and 29 20 over games.

“He made a lasting impression during his previous stint with us and we are delighted to have him at Hampshire for the next couple of years,” said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.

Bailey, who has scored more than 20,000 first class runs, has also played in the Indian Premier League and Big Bash League.
