Australia’s former Test captain Ricky Ponting wants to see the best of Pakistan’s leading batsman Babar Azam in Test cricket.
Averaging just 35.28 in Test cricket, Babar has yet to show his dominance in the longer format of the game after remaining in limelight in the white-ball cricket since his debut in 2015. And Ponting thinks he can be as good in Test cricket as he is in ODIs and T20Is.
“He is pure talent and can be lethal for Pakistan in the upcoming Test series. I am sure he could be anything on his day. He has the strength to deliver strong and breaking records,
“I want to see his best in Test cricket as well because his healthy strike rate of 54 in ODI cricket makes him one of the finest batsmen of this era,” three-time World Cup-winning captain said.
Ponting recalled World Cup 2019 when Babar struck seven boundaries in just 28 balls against Australia despite his team was suffering through a difficult situation.
“I was there and I witnessed how cool he was. He looked like he was playing a different game,” said Ponting, who was a part of Aussies camp as an assistant coach for the World Cup.
It must be noted here that Babar will be Pakistan batting’s backbone following his two consecutive worthy knocks for the green shirts in the first two practice matches of this Test tour. He scored 157 runs against Australia and 63 runs against Cricket Australia XI.
