Azhar named ODI captain, Moin sacked as chief selector: sources

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Azhar Ali as new one day captain whereas Moin Khan has been sacked as chief selector citing sources, reports.

According to sources, the board has named Azhar Ali as the captain of the ODI team while Sarfraz Ahmed has been named the vice captain.

It should be noted that Ali’s name was suggested by the head coach of Pakistan Waqar Younis in his report on the World Cup campaign to PCB.

Azhar Ali has not played a single 50 over game since January 2013.

Names of Wahab Riaz, Sarfraz Ahmed, Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez were being considered for the position, the sources said.

The board has retained Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi as test and Twenty20 captain respectively, sources said.

It has also been reported that Moin Khan will no longer serve as the chief selector of the board while Haroon Rasheed will take his position.

Khan was found in a casino in New Zealand during Pakistan’s World Cup campaign whereas he was also criticized by the nation and cricketing experts for the squad selection for the mega event.

Sources have also said that Azhar Khan, Kabeer Khan and Saleem Jaffar have been included in the selection committee.
