Basit doubts ‘IPL influence’ behind SA defeat

KARACHI: Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has expressed doubts that South Africa could only lose to India if Indian Premier League (IPL) influences the key game on Sunday.

He made this statement during ARY News’ special transmission titled ‘Har Lamha Purjosh’ on the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

To a question by program host, Basit replied with a supplementary question that, “which team players are mostly featured in IPL?… They are Australians and South Africans,” he detailed.

He had said that there is no match between South Africa and India as the African team are a well-balanced side. He also said that Proteas can emerge victorious in the high voltage match provided if IPL does not influence the encounter.

It should be noted that several members of South African cricket team including ODI captain AB de Villiers and pace spearhead Dale Steyn are currently performing for different franchises in IPL.
