England’s coach, Trevor Bayliss seems to be impressed by the Pakistani spin-wizard, Saqlain Mushtaq after England’s thumping victory at Old Trafford against Pakistan.
As per The Guardian, Bayliss wants to take Saqlain Mushtaq onboard for their upcoming tour of India and Bangladesh later this year, where there are spin-friendly pitches.
Bayliss said after winning the second test match by a huge margin of 330 runs, “Both Mo and Rash enjoyed working with him very much. By the sound of it, it was very positive and we’ll look to use him again.”
“It wasn’t necessarily a lot of technical coaching – I’m sure he mentioned one or two things – it was more tactical. That’s where we think both Rash and Mo need to make improvements to go ahead in the international game.”
Saqlain, the originator of off-spin variation ‘Doosra’, played for Pakistan during the span of 1995 to 2004, he took 496 wickets in international cricket.
After the defeat against England, many local fans have coined Saqlain as a traitor, however, his companions have stood up in his support.
Shahid Afridi tweeted, “Respect to @Saqlain_Mushtaq (Saqlain Mushtaq) for doing his job as a coach. One cannot attribute our match loss to him, nor should he be labelled a traitor.”
Pakistan’s former middle order batsman, Mohammad Yousuf also used Twitter to show support for the offie, “Professional @Saqlain_Mushtaq (Saqlain Mushtaq) helped #EngvPak spinner but we lost the test match due to bad shot selection by our batsman.”
Azhar Mehmood, who will replace Mushtaq Ahmed as the bowling consultant during the limited over series, said, “Blaming Saqi for taking the Eng job need to realise this is a profession. He’s made us proud when he played 4 pak & he still makes us proud.”
Saqlain Mushtaq was associated with England just for the second test match. The third contest between the two sides will commence from August 3.
