London: England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes considers former Australian captain Steve Smith a ‘genius’ and a batsman ‘on a different level’ despite England-Australia on-field rivalry.
“He’s still strange to play against and he’s still strange to play with, and the best thing about it is that he admits it. He knows it, he knows it!” Stokes said in an interview. “But I feel to be a genius you have to be a bit strange and you know he’s certainly both,” he added.
Stokes said that he can’t think about the game the way Smith does. “I could never be like that, personally, I could not think about cricket in the way that he does when it comes to batting,” he said.
It must be noted here that Smith has represented Australian in all three formats of the game. He has scored 7227 runs at an average of 62.84 in Test cricket. He has 26 100s and 29 50s in the longer version of the game.
In ODIs, he has played 125 games so far and scored 4162 runs at an average of 42.46. In T20Is, he has 681 runs in his account at an average of 29.60.
