Bangladesh have registered their second win in the Asia Cup, they defeated the Sri Lankan convincingly by 24 runs. Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 147/7 in their quota of 20 overs, Sri Lanka could score just 124/8 runs in reply.
Bangladesh got a disastrous start losing both of their openers on just 2 runs. The experienced Mushfiqur Rahim couldn’t get into runs as well and lost his wicket after scoring 4 runs. The young Sabbir Rahman and the veteran allrounder, Shakib Al Hasan rescued Bangladesh from 26/3 to 108/4 in 16 overs before Sabbir got out. Shakib perished after scoring handy 32 runs.
Sabbir Rahman played an outstanding innings of 80 runs off 54 deliveries, his innings comprised of 10 fours and 3 sixes. Mahmudullah provided his team the final touches with a quick fire 23 runs. Dushmantha Chameera was the pick of the bowler with 3 wickets in his 4 overs giving away just 30 runs. However, Angelo Mathews was also wonderful with the ball, having figures of 8 for 1 in 3 overs.
Tillakaratne Dilshan was the first batsman to fall in the cause of chasing down the target of 148, at a total of 20 runs. Dinesh Chandimal looked impressive today as well, he scored 37 runs off 37 balls, Mahmdullah got the better of him.
His wicket was the beginning of an end. Bangladesh kept taking wickets at daily intervals. Sri Lankan batting line collapsed from 78/3 to 124/8 in 20 overs. Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rehman choked Sri Lanka for runs that put pressure on them and they got out playing outrageous shots.
Al-Amin Hossain was the best bowler for Bangladesh with 3 wickets in his 4 overs leaking 34 runs. Sabbir Rahman got the man of the match award for his special innings of 80 runs under pressure and guiding Bangladesh to a winning total.
