Bilal Asif bagged five wickets to help Central Punjab (CP) control Southern Punjab (SP) on Day three of the last round in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at State Bank Ground Karachi.
SP were 205 runs behind after they closed Day 3 at 392-8. Century knocks each from SP’s Zeeshan Ashraf and Agha Salman went in vain as their team struggled in later half of the day.
Zeeshan scored 141 runs off 212 balls with the help of 15 boundaries and three sixes while Agha made 140 runs. Meanwhile, Rahat Ali remained not out for eight runs.
Apart from Bilal, Ehsan Adil took two wickets while Zafar Gohar managed two wickets.
Earlier, CP declared the first inning for 597-8. Ahmad Shahzad (100), Abdullah Shafiq (133) and Usman Salahuddin (114) led the charge for the table-topper.
In another important match of the tournament, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) need 206 more runs to win against Northern after they closed Day 3 at 39-2. Ashfaq Ahmed (10*) and Israrullah (9*) will resume the inning for them on the last day of the match.
Northern declared their second inning for 139-6 after gaining the 105-runs first-inning lead. Zeeshan Malik top-scored for them with 52 runs.
In a dead rubber contest at National Stadium Karachi, Sindh closed Day 3 at 356-5, 106 runs behind Baluchistan’s first-inning total of 471-9. Khurram Manzoor provided a solid start to the home side as the right-handed batsman scored 109 runs. Saud Shakeel made 151 runs. Left-handed batsman Fawad Alam remained not out for 69 runs.
