Sami Aslam and Mohammad Hafeez’s brilliant partnership hands Federal Areas a thrilling victory against Balochistan as they chased down 324 runs at loss of 9 wickets with no balls to spare in the final of Pakistan Cup.
Imad Wasim, the captain of Federal Areas, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Balochistan’s in-form opening pair could not give a firm stand as their skipper, Fakhar Zaman lost his wicket at a total of 47 runs.
Sohaib Maqsood replaced Fakhar and had a handy partnership of 53 runs with the other opener, Farhan Sahibzada. Maqsood lost his wicket after scoring 32 runs
Federal Areas’ middle order batsman kept contributing in bits and pieces, on the other end, Sahibzada struck his fifth consecutive half-century of the tournament and he went on to convert his last inning into a marvelous century. He got out after scoring 112 runs off 94 deliveries with the help of eleven 4’s and four 6’s.
Sohail Tanvir and Aamer Yamin provided the finishing touch by playing cameos of 36 and 47 runs respectively.
Mohammad Hafeez remained the pick of the bowler for Federal Areas with 3 wickets for 63 runs in 10 overs. Sohail Khan, Zohaib Ahmed and Imad Wasim took two wickets apiece.
In reply, Federal Areas did not have an ideal start losing Abid Ali at a total of just 18 runs. But, Sami Aslam and Mohammad Hafeez took the charge and had a magnificent partnership of 158 runs.
Mohammad Hafeez played an aggressive knock of 83 runs on 75 balls. Whereas, Sami Aslam went on to score another fantastic ton. He got out after scoring 109 runs at run-a-ball rate.
Haris Sohail failed on the big occasion while Imad Wasim, Hussain Talat and Zohaib Ahmed put in handy contributions of 21, 36 and 29 runs respectively.
The game came down to last over, where Federal Areas needed 4 runs in the over with two wickets in hand. Hasan Khan lost his wicket in the last over, but Sarmad Bhatti struck a boundary off the last ball to make his team champion. He remained not out on 15 runs.
Sohail Tanvir and Ghulam Mudassar took 3 wickets each. Rameez Aziz also struck once.
Mohammad Hafeez won the Man of the Match award in the final for his allround performance.
