Dhaka: Pakistan defeats Afghanistan by 6-wickets in its first U-19 Cricket World Cup match.
In the match played at Sylhet International stadium, Pakistan captain Gohar Hafeez won the toss and invited Afghanistan to bat. Afghanistan XI scored 126 runs in 41.2 overs and returned to the pavilion, in reply the Green Shirts easily achieved the target in 31.3 overs losing 4 wickets.
Tariq from the Afghanistan side stood out by scoring 53 runs whereas 7 other batsmen were unable to reach a double figure. From the Green Shirt’s side Shadab Khan took 4 wickets, Hasan Mohsin 3 and Hasan Khan, Ahmad Shafiq and Saif Badar took a single wicket each.
While chasing the runs, surprisingly the captain Gohar Hafeez got out on a single run, after which on the second wicket Zeeshan Malik and Muhammad Umar successfully moved the score to 42 when Zeeshan returned to the pavilion scoring 29 runs. Saif Badar scored 17 and Muhammad Umar 25 before getting out, whereas Hasan Mohsin with 28 and Umair Maqsood with 13 stayed at the crease. Hasan Mohsin on his excellent performance was declared as ‘Man of The Match.’
In various U-19 matches, India won against Ireland by 79 runs, Sri Lanka beat Canada by 196 runs and Nepal defeated New Zealand by 32 runs.
