‘Can’t describe that pressure’ Wahab recalls Afghanistan match in WC19

Karachi: Speedster Wahab Riaz recalled his worthy knock against Afghanistan in World Cup 2019 group stage game.

Speaking to a YouTube channel, Wahab said he stepped into the ground with an aim to give his best and leave the rest on Allah. “Sarfaraz came to me before I was going to bat. Everyone in the dressing room was reciting either ‘Durood Pak’ or ‘Qurani Ayats’ and immense pressure was on. I told Saifi that I will try to give my best,” recalled Wahab.

“We needed 22 runs off 20 balls and I was on strike with a fractured thumb. Honestly speaking, I didn’t know when Rashid released the ball and it hit me, I knew just when I heard a big appeal.

“Imad Wasim came to me when I missed the first delivery and asked me why I took the risk to play a shot despite knowing that Rashid will bowl in. But, I told him to stay at his end and let me play. Thereon, I decided to take a risk and hit the ball hard and I successfully struck a four and six to contribute to the team’s win,” he concluded.

It must be noted here that Wahab scored 15 runs off 9 balls with the help of a six and a boundary to help Pakistan beat Afghanistan with three wickets in hand and two balls to spare.
