Iftikhar Ahmed played a match-winning knock of 109 runs to help Punjab chase down a mammoth total of 328 runs and beat Federal Areas by seven wickets in the seventh match of the Pakistan Cup at Pindi Stadium on Monday.
Sami Aslam supported Iftikhar well as they both 116 runs together on the third wicket to help Punjab chase down a mammoth total of 328 runs.
While batting first, Federal Areas posted 327 runs on the scoreboard with a strong opening partnership of 158 runs between Ahmad Shahzad and Israrullah. They both showed courage to make the most of a batting pitch before Waleed Ahmed sent both the openers back home.
Ahmad scored 74 runs off 78 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes while Israrullah fell just six runs short to his yet another century. His 94-run inning included 11 hits to the fence.
Sohaib Maqsood looked in an aggressive mood as he hit fives sixes and two boundaries to score 55 runs off 45 balls. Mohammad Nawaz contributed 25 runs to the team’s total.
26-years-old Waleed Ahmed bagged four wickets conceding 59 runs in his 10-over spell. Right-arm pacer Mohammad Sami took three wickets for Punjab.
In reply, the openers of Punjab were not able to provide a formidable start as Khurram Manzoor walked off after scoring just 39 runs while Kamran Akmal 15 runs.
Sami and Iftikhar then rescued Punjab and took them over the victory line. Sami thrashed the opponents’ bowlers to score 81 runs off 73 balls including 10 boundaries and two sixes. Iftikhar smashed six boundaries and as many sixes during his stay at the crease.
Saad Ali and Iftikhar, in the end, completed the job for Punjab by putting up a partnership of 141 runs on the scoreboard. Saad blasted his way to scoring 76 runs off just 50 balls.
Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Nawaz, and Asad Afridi bagged a wicket each for Federal Areas.
