The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is set to host the matches of the World T20 to be held in India in 2016 but according to reports (published in ESPNcricinfo) it is possible that the right to host the tournament might well be taken away from the stadium in Chennai.
According to details the parts of the stadium are not available for the crowds because of a dispute between local authorities but the ICC is clearly not comfortable with such an issue and wants the BCCI to resolve this issue or else the venue will be removed from list.
The report stated that the ICC has sent two schedules to the BCCI, one with the venue included and the other one without it. It is possible that the BCCI will comment on this issue today and let ICC know about their opinion.
A few days back BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur did gave out a statement on this issue and he was hopeful that the venue might still hold matches during the T20 tournament.
“We have not ruled out Chennai. The only issue is which matches can be played in Chennai. There are certain limitations – can’t play Sri Lanka there, three stands are not complete and you can’t keep Indian fans away from those stands,”
