Chief Selector Urooj Mumtaz shows concern over players performance

Pakistan women’s team chief selector has shown concern over important players’ performance in the recent past and identified the importance of National Triangular T20 Women’s Cricket Championship which will allow them to view their performances.

“Not just me all cricket lovers are concerned over top players’ performances. We all know Nida Dar is a match-winner and her performances have won us matches in the past,” the former player said.

“Nahida Khan knows herself that she is not performing according to her potential as she is not converting 30-40 into big ones,” She added.

“There is one advantage that just before the mega event, a high-quality domestic tournament is being played and top girls are playing and all the teams are balanced,” She said.

“This platform will allow us to judge the current form of players and for getting selected in the team, they all have to perform well,” She added.

Former captain cleared that no one is an automatic choice and the selection will be based on their performance.

“Best performer will go forward, team combination also matters. No one is an automatic choice as performances will be viewed for the selection,”

She is confident that the team has the potential to shine in the upcoming ICC Women World Cup in Australia but is worried about match-finishers who are not finishing the games when required.

“In 2019 we defeated West Indies in our home soil and we played exceptional in that series. In South Africa, we defeated them 2 times. So there is a potential but when the opportunity comes for the match finishers, they are not able to finish them.

The 34-year-old concluded that their aim is to win matches and go forward to the best possible stage in the competition rather than finishing in the group stages.

National Triangular T20 Women’s Cricket Championship is underway in Karachi at National Stadium where three teams are in action in a double-league based format.
