Islamabad: PHF secretary Shahbaz senior said, “The Federation has focused itself on revival of the National game including its qualification for the Hockey World Cup. The corporate sector will have to play its role to bring back our lost image at the world level.”
While speaking to the media at the Naseer Bunda Hockey ground Islamabad during the U-18 Asian Hockey Cup preparation trials he said “The training camp for Pakistan senior team has already begun in Lahore in which mistakes committed by the players during the Azlan Shah Hockey tournament will be rectified and we’ll try to overcome the player’s deficiencies.”
In response to a question regarding Pakistan not being able to qualify for mega events like the Olympic Games and the World Cup, Shahbaz senior said, “The Federation doesn’t want to go into the past, our entire focus is on the revival and progress of the national game and the senior team’s prime target is to qualify for the World Cup, its qualifying round will be played next year.” He said, the federation is especially focusing on the player’s fitness and performance and despite financial constraints it is our endeavor that Pakistan’s junior and senior teams get maximum opportunity to participate in International events to elevate their image at the world level.
Pakistan’s senior team is under preparation to participate in the Senior Asian Trophy to be held in Malaysia and special emphasis is being laid on improving its performance. He said “PHF is very optimistic to launch its first Hockey League during the current year and positive progress is expected till 30th of July and if the summary sent to the government is approved, we might give you big news next month. He re-emphasized the corporate sector to play its role in bringing back the lost image of our national hockey game at the world level.”
