Kohli century leads India to six-wicket victory

Virat Kohli hit his 33rd one-day century as India defeated South Africa by six wickets in the first of a six-match series at Kingsmead on Thursday.

Kohli made 112 off 119 balls as India chased down their 270-run target with 27 balls to spare.

India had never won here in their seven outings against the hosts (one no result).

However, Kohli’s faith in his two wrist spinners and in new No 4, Ajinkya Rahane, paid off as India were able to restrict South Africa to a total that allowed them the luxury to coast to the target.

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis also made a century, 120 off 112 balls.

Scores in brief:

South Africa 269-8 in 50 overs (F. du Plessis 120; Kuldeep Yadav 3-34).

India 270-4 in 45.3 overs (V. Kohli 112, A. Rahane 79).

Result: India won by six wickets
