Daren Sammy conferred ‘Sitara-e-Pakistan’ by President of Pakistan

Islamabad: President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has conferred Sitara-e-Pakistan for former West Indies captain Daren Sammy.

President, on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day (August 14, 2021), has conferred 126 civil awards on citizens of Pakistan as well as foreign nationals for showing excellence and courage in their respective fields.

The investiture ceremony of these awards will take place on Pakistan Day, 23rd March 2022.

“Thank you Government of Pakistan for the honor of Sitara-e- Pakistan,” Sammy said.

“I thank the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, President Arif Ali and the people of Pakistan. Pakistan is my second home,” he added.

It must be noted that Sammy has played a key part in reviving international cricket in Pakistan. He came to Pakistan and played the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season two.

He represented Peshawar Zalmi for five years and is now the head coach of the franchise. In March 2020, he also received honorary citizenship of Pakistan.
