DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor told Pakistanis that the armed forces are humbled to see their love and support, but he opposed the idea of wearing camouflage shirts and caps in the final.
Indian team recently wore army caps during their third ODI of the series against Australia to show solidarity with their army. However, their action was not welcomed by the cricketing fraternity and accused BCCI of mixing cricket with politics.
As a response, few Pakistanis voiced for fans to wear army caps and shirts during the final of the Pakistan Super League at the National Stadium Karachi on March 17 to show support to their armed forces.
However, DG ISPR hailed the love and support of Pakistanis towards them but asked them to enjoy the beautiful game rather than mixing it with politics.
“Dear Pakistanis u are desirous to put on military-style caps/shirts during PSL Final. Pak Armed Forces humbly acknowledge your love & support,” he wrote on Twitter. “Sports are beyond politics & we believe that our bondage is beyond such gestures alone. Enjoy the game in CityOfLights.
