Dilshan’s brilliance at the top of the order led Sri Lanka to a convincing win over Afghanistan as the Islanders got off to a winning start in the World T20.

Dilshan smashed 83 runs off 56 balls to ensure that his side chased down a rather modest total of 154 runs set by the Afghanistan team. Dilshan held onto one end during the entire chase and smacked the Afghani bowlers to all parts of the ground. Speaking to media after the match, the man of the match award winner, Dilshan said that he wanted to prove a point as he bagged two ducks in the warm up matches preceding the mega event.

“I got two ducks in two [warm-up] matches. The first game was really important for me and I’m happy how I batted today. I was not out and finished the game,”

Dilshan admitted that the wicket was slow for batting and street smart cricket was required to chase down this tricky target.

“The wicket was slow, hitting was not very easy. We had to bat smart to get 150. It was not easy there but I think we managed really well in the middle and our running between the wicket was really good.”

Both these team will step onto the field once again on the 20th of March when Afghanistan will come up against South Africa meanwhile Sri Lanka will face West Indies.
