Disabled sports personalities making a difference


Life can be cruel sometimes but it’s all about how you are willing to deal with it and the following sports personalities proved, despite their inherent disability, that anything is possible if you prepared to go the distance against all odds.

Esther Mary Vergeer

She is a retired Dutch wheelchair tennis player. The resilient player has won 42 Grand Slam tournaments, 22 year-end championships and 7 Paralympics titles.


Kelly Cartwright

She is an Australian athlete and has won two medals at two Paralympics. Kelly climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in 2009.


Matt Stutzman

He is an American athlete who competes in archery. He won a silver medal at the Paralympics 2012. He is currently also the world record holder for longest accurate shot in archery.


Rajinder Singh Rahelu

He is an Indian Paralympic powerlifter who won a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in the 56 kg category. He represented India at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing.


Muhammmad Fayaz

He was an internationally recognised cricketer who died toward the end of 2015. The player remained a member of the national blind cricket team for a couple of years and won a gold medal for his remarkable performance in international matches.
