The head coach of Central Punjab (CP), champions of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2019-20, Ijaz Junior said that they can only consider players who get the green signal from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
To a query about considering domestic performer Salman Butt for the national team following his strong form, Ijaz highlighted once the PCB instructs them anything about Butt’s future, they will consider him.
“I think such decisions depend on the PCB. I think if they instruct us anything about Butt’s future, we will definitely consider,” said Ijaz, who is a part of the national team’s selection committee headed by head-coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq.
“We are watching every player at a domestic level closely. We are in touch with Misbah. However, there are some instructions from the PCB about certain players, we consider players only on the green signal from the cricket board,” the head coach of CP added.
On the other hand, the PCB clarified that all players, who play domestic cricket, are eligible for selection in the national team. “PCB has a clear stance, players who are playing domestic cricket are eligible for the national team’s selection. The cricket board has clarified the situation and asked Ijaz about his statement regarding Butt and he said it was a slip of the tongue,” a PCB’s spokesperson told ARY Sports.
It must be noted here that Butt is the third-highest run-scorer in this year’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with 901 runs at an average of 75.08 including three centuries and as many half-centuries.
