KARACHI: Pakistan Television (PTV) Sports Director Dr Nauman Niaz has been dismissed from office and appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD), ARY News reported on Tuesday.
According to media reports, Dr Nauman, who is largely credited for giving a new life to sports broadcasting in Pakistan, got the government’s rough end of stick for getting into an agreement with Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings.
PTV Sports and Karachi Kings signed a media partnership deal on Friday. As part of the collaboration, PTV Sports was to serve as official channel for Karachi Kings during the PSL.
“We are entering into this coordination not for commercial purposes but to enhance the soft image of Pakistan,” Dr Nauman had said during the agreement-signing ceremony held at Dolmen Mall in Karachi’s Clifton area.
“We share the passion of cricket with the Karachi Kings management and will be more than willing to play our part in bringing the international cricket back to the grounds of Pakistan.”
However, a day after the agreement was signed, a tweet posted from PTV Sports’ official account stated that the “partnership has been held back due to technical reasons”.
The “technical reasons” were not communicated to Karachi Kings management, nor anything official other than the tweet was released.
