Known for his great fielding abilities, Jonty Rhodes is desperately waiting to get out there in front of an enthusiastic crowd at National Stadium Karachi on March 9 when Islamabad United will take on Lahore Qalandars in the opener of Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) Pakistan leg.
“I can’t wait to see the crazy crowd at National Stadium. I visited Pakistan in 2015 and 2016 and now waiting for yet another visit to the cricket loving place,” said Rhodes while talking to the HBL PSL 2019 website.
Rhodes highly rated the only cricketing league of Pakistan and said that the quality cricket makes the league one of the top leagues around the world.
“I have been impressed with so many things here but pace bowling is something made me excited and the way pacers dominate on the slow wickets of UAE is exceptional,” said Rhodes who sees a bright future of the PSL.
Former South African said that the PSL has helped Pakistan cricket team improve their fielding standards. “Recently we have seen Pakistan cricket team doing really well in fielding department which is so important to win matches,” he said.
Rhodes, on the other hand, thinks that the league has not produced quality batsmen and most of the teams rely on their foreign players which is not a good sign for them.
“What I observed here is that the young batsmen are not trying to learn from foreigners which can help them improve their batting skills,” he said.
Rhodes featured in 52 Tests and 245 ODIs for South Africa. His exceptional role in fielding made him one of the finest fielder the world of cricket has ever got.
