Congratulations to Captain Eoin Morgan and his England cricket team for convincingly beating Pakistan 3-1 in the ODI series. England played better in all departments and thoroughly deserved their win.
After Misbah ul Haq led Pakistan to win the Test series, their confidence was high, however ODI Captain Azhar Ali was unable to carry the form over.
The 1st ODI started well for Pakistan with Hafeez making 102 not out and Babar Azam 62 not out, winning by 6 wickets.
The 2nd ODI England trashed Pakistan by 95 runs, with Hales making 109. Pakistan collapsed to a dismal 188 all out.
The 3rd ODI, England won easily by 6 wickets after dismissing Pakistan for 208.
The final ODI was again a clinical finish by England. They racked up 355/5, with Roy getting 102. However the main attraction was Jos Buttler who came back to form with a blistering 116 not out, off only 52 balls (10 fours, 8 sixes). His century off 46 balls broke the record for the fastest England ODI hundred. Pakistan fought back against the mammoth target, but they finished on 271, losing by 84 runs.
Jos Buttler was named man of the match and also man of the series.
England showed strength in all areas during the series.
Pakistan’s ODI performance remains an ongoing concern. Poor batting, too many run outs, dubious fielding and lack of attacking bowling. An all round disappointing, lacklustre effort.
Pakistan are struggling at number 8 in the ICC ODI rankings and will struggle to gain straight entry to the 2019 World Cup, if their results don’t improve.
Captain Azhar Ali, the coach and management need to take a long hard look at themselves and reflect on this series.
We look forward to the Twenty20 series between Pakistan led by Shahid Afridi and England next week.
