Congratulations to the England team on comprehensively winning the T20 series 3-0 against Pakistan. This comes after England secured the ODI Series 3-1.
England outplayed Pakistan in all disciplines batting, bowling and fielding. England also handled the pressure situations better in this quick fire format. Their fighting spirit at the crucial moments of each match was most impressive.
Pakistan who were ranked number 2 in the ICC World rankings before the series generally disappointed with their performance. They have now fallen to number 6.
T20 Captain Shahid Afridi and his team showed glimpses of sparkle but were unable to chase the target in all three matches. The first match Pakistan lost by 14 runs, the second by 4 runs and the third match was tied before going to a dramatic super over.
Pakistan’s preparation and attitude came across as too relaxed, bordering on lazy. The running between the wickets was at times pure comedy.
With the World T20 tournament only four months away, I am afraid Pakistan need to pick up their game. The pressure on the Pakistan management and selectors will be mounting.
In this three match series I am struggling to find too many positives for Pakistan. Shahid Afridi had a couple of good bowling spells, combined with his trademark big hitting and Shoaib Malik’s 75 runs off 54 balls in the final game was a highlight but he gave his wicket away before finishing off the game.
